SKF India launched the second year of its highly impactful SKF Scholarship Program for Girls- UDAAN at Aurangabad,Maharashtra today. This event was attended by all the scholarship winners, their parents and siblings, and the media.

SKF Scholarship Program for Girls -Udaan is a CSR initiative from SKF that aims to empower 40 deserving girls from underprivileged backgrounds with scholarships. This scholarship provides complete financial assistance to these deserving girls to pursue professional education of their choice, post Grade 10, which may not have been possible otherwise. Udaan was launched in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, which is traditionally a drought prone region with limited industrial development.

The Udaan Scholarship was launched in 2017 and continues to transform lives of meritorious girls from lower income groups in rural and urban areas, in its second year as well, who now have access to higher education and are working hard towards fulfilling their dreams.

This year, similar to the last, Udaan will cover all the educational expenses for 40 girls starting from their class 11 till the completion of a professional course for the selected candidates. Girls scoring more than 85% in 2017 SSC board examination, with a family income less than INR 1.5 Lakhs annually were eligible to apply for this scholarship. A multi-functional, unbiased, merit based selection process awards scholarships to the deserving candidates. Besides the financial support, the SKF Scholarship Program also has a component of holistic capability building program with in-built personality advancement, career guidance and mentorship components in the program.

Mr. Rakesh Makhija, Chairman of the Board, SKF India said, “Educating girls is very important for our society to rise and progress. This is especially important in India where traditionally the girl child may not always be given priority for higher education. SKF India through its CSR initiative, can enable bright and deserving girls to rise above economic constraints and achieve their dreams fearlessly”.
